Understanding Car Windshields

There's nothing like driving behind sand and salt trucks all winter to give us a fine appreciation for the value of our windshield-and the benefits of having it in one piece. If it develops a crack, you really need to get it fixed as soon as possible. The question is, if you go shopping for auto insurance quotes and buy a policy AFTER the windshield cracks, will they still cover the repairs?

The crack in the windshield also has to be cleaned thoroughly. There can be no short cuts in this because the rest of the process will depend on how efficiently you were able to clean the damaged portion. It is expected that dirt, dust and grime had infiltrated the cracks in the glass. This is the reason why it is advisable for you to cover it with a tape as soon as there is a crack and you can't decide yet whether to bring it to a professional or car auto glass repair it yourself. In any case, it is important that you ensure the cleanliness of the surface to eliminate additional problems later during the repair process.

Most windshield cracks can be repaired if the crack is no longer than 12 inches. Stress cracks and edge cracks that intersect more than one edge cannot be fix auto glass repair.
